How Lighting Can Turn Your Home To A Gallery

Does your current art display at home looks dull and flat? A visit to an art gallery or museum is not the only way to enjoy the artwork. There is a way to enjoy your artworks at home just by changing the way they are lit up inside your house.

There are several lighting systems that you can use to give your home an art gallery ambiance. Before starting your project, make sure that your house is properly wired to accommodate the new lights that you are going to setup. A professional electrician is needed to set up the electrical wiring and make sure they are safe. Now, while you are at it, here are the lighting systems that you can consider for your artworks.

Picture Lights

This type of light is mounted on the wall or directly on the frame of the artwork. Think of it as the painting’s spotlight. This kind of lighting gives a sense of intimacy and draws you closer to the art to give a closer look. Another advantage to this lighting is the various designs that can also serve as a décor to your room.

You can contact a professional electrician to set up the power source for this type of lighting.

Ceiling-Mounted Lights

This kind of lighting makes use of pin spotlights installed onto the ceiling. You can adjust the pin spotlights to the direction you need it to focus. You can select the range of light-beam to illuminate the artwork better.

Ceiling-mounted lights are ideally set up at a 30-degree angle so that the light will hit the center of the artwork. Wrongly setup light will result in glare or shadows to the illuminated artwork. Go to –

Track Lights

Track lights are more flexible than ceiling-mounted lights. You cannot easily remove a ceiling-mounted light from your ceiling without doing a significant repair to your ceiling. Track lights, on the other hand, could be easily moved or taken away if you decide to transfer your art piece.

Wall Washers

This type of lighting is the most convenient and functional lighting system. In this setup, the light is focused on the wall and not on a particular artwork. You can install the wall washers on the wall, ceiling, or floor. The light is distributed evenly on the wall.

With this type of lighting, you do not have to worry about moving your art pieces because anywhere on your wall is a good spot already.

You also need to consider the bulb that you are using for the lighting. Halogen is not an excellent option because it casts UV rays that could damage the artwork in the long run. Halogen tends to get hot, too. In any case, you can install UV filters if you prefer to use Halogen. LED bulbs are another option because it doesn’t emit UV rays and it doesn’t heat up too much.
